Multi-use Wynwood project with hotel wins design OK

A plan to construct a building 12 stories high in Wynwood, bringing 143 residential units, 70 hotel rooms and an internal courtyard with commercial-retail uses, gained a positive vote from the Wynwood Design Review Committee, along with some recommendations.

Historic Walgreens site redevelopment clears alcohol hurdle

The success of a plan for major redevelopment of an historic building in Miami hinged in part on the ability to sell alcohol. Developers cleared that hurdle, and another involving parking, at the April meeting of the city’s Historic and Environmental Preservation Board.


The developers, 200 E Flagler Development LLC, had requested a zoning exception to permit an alcohol service establishment over 5,000 square feet in an individually designated historic structure, and for a parking waiver eliminating 20 of the required off-street parking spaces for a contributing property in a locally designated historic site within the Miami Downtown Commercial Historic District.

Popular Miami based sushi concept Omakai to open in Coconut Grove

OMAKAI sushi will be expanding its fine casual, high-quality sushi concept beyond its original restaurant in Wynwood by opening in the heart of Coconut Grove in early 2022.


Launched in November 2019, and is the brainchild of two brothers, Diego and Pedro Quijada, along with Nicolas Sayavedra and Chef Aaron Pate. The team’s combined hospitality experience and passion for gastronomy led them to create this sushi concept, with omakase at the helm.
